Ahead of the opening of the G7 Summit in Taormina, Sicily, Unicef has published another young Nigerian girl’s testimony about the horrors committed by smugglers. It is a reminder that closed borders don't prevent people from leaving their countries to seek a better future, but in fact put them at risk and at the mercy of human and sex traffickers. Indeed, according to the most recent data from the Global Slavery Index, 45.8 million people are victims of some form of slavery around the world, including domestic servitude, forced labor, child labor, forced marriage and sex trafficking.
