The Czech ombudsman is asking the Constitutional Court to abolish laws of several Czech cities that prohibit sitting outside on buildings or stairs. According to the ombudsman, these laws violate freedom of movement and are unconstitutional. The verdict of the court could serve as a precedent for other towns to follow. The aim of the restrictive regulations is to prevent public nuisance and protect public green areas and the aesthetic value of the cities. This means that anyone who sits down with ice cream on the curb is committing an offense.
