Facebook on Monday announced plans for an independent oversight board that will have the power to overturn company decisions on user posts. The move is an effort to combat the spread of misinformation and abusive behaviour on Facebook, with an eye on the upcoming EU elections in May. The 40-member board would have the discretion to select which cases to review, with board members appointed for three-year terms. From there on the board would have the authority to determine its own future makeup.
