Ahead of the 25 May referendum on Ireland’s abortion ban, Facebook said on 8 May that it would block political advertising from groups based outside the country. It has also introduced a tool allowing users to see all the ads a group is posting on the site, in an effort to increase the transparency of political campaigns on its platform. In a blog post Facebook said in In a blog post about the Irish decision, Facebook said it wants to improve its service "so that people know who is paying for the ads they are seeing."
