On Tuesday MEPs concluded two and a half years of negotiations by passing the EU’s new copyright reform to regulate the digital single market. Parliamentarians voted 348 in favour, 274 against, 36 abstentions. The legislation aims to bring creative companies and content makers fair pay from large technology platforms, which make huge profits from online advertising. However, Liberties has argued that European policymakers have failed to strike a balance between copyright and free speech.
