The European Networks of Councils for the Judiciary will come to The Hague on December 8 to discuss the state of the Turkish council. The board of the ENCJ will propose to its members to suspend the status of the Turkish High Council for Judges and Prosecutors (HSYK) as an observer to the ENCJ. Since the failed coup attempt in Turkey, thousands of judges and prosecutors have been suspended, fired and even detained. The ENCJ condemns the coup, but has called on Turkish authorities to guarantee a fair and impartial process and respect the independence of judges.
