As Italy refuses to let migrants disembark from a Coast Guard ship and Italian Deputy Prime Minister Matteo Salvini threatens to resign over the row, the EC has called for an emergency meeting on Friday, 24 August. After the Aquarius ship case, the latest dispute is between Salvini and Italian President Sergio Mattarella over whether 177 migrants rescued in the Mediterranean should be allowed to disembark from the Diciotti ship. Though no concrete decision are expected, the European Commission hopes the meeting leads to a member state agreeing to take in the people onboard the Diciotti.
