A majority of the Dutch House of Representatives has voted in favour of abolishing the advisory referendum. In addition to the Dutch parties VVD, CDA, D66 and ChristenUnie, the SGP also voted to abolish these referenda. The amendment that would make it possible to hold a referendum on the withdrawal of the advisory referendum did not get enough votes. The opposition parties that are in favour of the referendum see the advisory referendum as a democratic means for the population to correct and adjust politics. The revocation still has to pass in the Senate.
