Dutch MPs have voted overwhelmingly to ban the Islamic full-face burqa from some public places, including schools and hospitals. The vote in the Netherlands, held on November 29, is the latest move against full-face veils by European governments; in October, Bulgaria's Parliament passed a measure to ban veils in public. The Dutch motion bans "all clothing which completely covers the face" from government buildings. It was approved by 132 members in the 150-seat House, including Prime Minister Mark Rutte’s ruling coalition. The bill now goes to the Senate for approval before becoming law.
