After a year of talks, the Dutch government and municipal authorities have failed to reach an agreement over whether to provide food and shelter to rejected asylum seekers. The issue, known as 'bed, bath and bread' in the Netherlands, is contentious: the prime minister and many voters favor no support and immediate deportation for failed asylum seekers, but city authorities and others say that legal and ethical considerations mean they must provide some support and not leave migrants in the streets to die. A final resolution to the situation isn't expected before national elections in March.
