"I am convinced that foreigners with long-term residency in a particular state should have the right to participate in politics. The majority of European countries, including the Czech Republic, still deny this right," said Czech Ombudsman Anna Šabatová. She thinks that involving foreigners in policy making will encourage dialogue with the majority. Some 450,000 foreigners legally reside in the Czech Republic, and more than half are permanent residents. Foreigners from other EU countries may already vote in municipal elections.
