The Belgian press has revealed possible inappropriate behavior during the autopsy of the two suspected jihadists killed during a police anti-terror raid in Verviers on January 15. This case brings back a substantive issue: that of the need for an independent investigation to determine the exact circumstances of this raid. The operation has received general approval because of the threat of terrorism, but this approval does not exempt authorities from checks on whether their procedures are in compliance with legal requirements and with the jurisprudence of the European Court of Human Rights.
