Hristo Geshov, an investigative reporter working in the town of Cherven Bryag, Bulgaria, was attacked and beaten outside his home late last week. Geshov had been receiving death threats for his coverage of alleged corruption in the town. "I attribute this attack entirely to my investigative reporting...about the management of finances by the Cherven Bryag municipal government,” Geshov wrote on Facebook after the beating. He has authored a series of articles about local government irregularities, one of which claimed that three municipal councillors were using EU funds to renovate their homes.
