During a special Council of Ministers meeting, Theo Francken, the Belgian secretary of state for asylum and migration, announced he wanted, under the pretext of combatting terrorism and criminality, to build three additional detention centers for migrants in order to double the country's detention capacity by 2021. With this decision, Francken is continuing his repressive strategy of increasing the number of evictions and extending the administrative detention period. According to the League of Human Rights, administrative detention constitutes a violation of basic rights and human dignity.
