Most children in asylums who are subject to compulsory schooling attend school within three months of entry into the Netherlands, says Education Secretary Sander Dekker. He informed Parliament that on the first of March, 94 percent of asylum children in Dutch reception centers received education. The children's ombudsman stated in a report of last month that asylum children staying in a Dutch emergency shelter are at risk of becoming a "lost generation" due to long waiting times, insufficient living standards, forced relocations and interruptions in their education.
