Ahmed Amashah is the latest person to discuss torture during his detention in Egypt, which he was subjected to without any formal charges being brought against him. In Egypt in the first three months of 2017, 871 people, including 27 under the age of 18, were arrested, 50 were assassinated and 41 sentenced to death. Ahmed's accounts of torture and rape add new elements to Giulio Regeni’s case, as the student was found tortured to death, and the Egyptian authorities are suspected of covering up what happened to him - if they were not directly responsible for his death.
