The Italian Parliament has approved a new law that allows families with a minor in their guardianship to adopt him or her, but the same right will not be permitted to singles or couples married within the last three years. The Democratic Party submitted an amendment to this bill to include these groups, but decided to withdraw it in order to avoid problems with the most conservative members of the majority.
