Adam Bodnar, human rights activist and former Polish Ombudsman for Citizens' Rights, has resigned as an independent board member of the Berlin-based Civil Liberties Union for Europe (Liberties) as of 1 November.

Adam Bodnar resigned because he was elected to the Polish Senate, the upper house of the Polish Parliament, following the Polish parliamentary elections on 15 October 2023.

“Serving as an independent board member at Liberties has been a profound honor and privilege for me. I have had the distinct pleasure of collaborating with an exceptional group of individuals dedicated to upholding and safeguarding fundamental rights throughout Europe. The experience has been both professionally enriching and personally rewarding”, said Bodnar.

"We are sincerely grateful to Adam for his work as a member of the Liberties Board and wish him every success in strengthening democracy and the rule of law in Poland”, said Balazs Denes, executive director at Liberties.
