The Romanian government's recent moves to amend the laws of justice, which seriously jeopardize the independence of the judiciary, has prompted over 900 magistrates in the country to sign a "resolution for defending the rule of law." The document was made public by the Forum of Judges in Romania and initiated on 19 May during a protest in front of the Palace of Justice. The magistrates note that the overwhelming majority of Romanian judges and prosecutors don't support the government's draft laws to usurp powers of the judicial branch.
