Last week 101 Syrian and Iraqi refugees – including 41 children – arrived in Rome by plane thanks to the humanitarian corridors created by Italian civil society. They had found refuge in Lebanon but were still held in very fragile situations. This is the result of an ambitious project by the Federation of the Evangelical Church in Italy and Community Sant’Egidio, aiming to welcome 1,000 refugees to Italy over the course of two years. Humanitarian corridors are a real bridge of hope and safety for refugees fleeing wars and wishing to start a new life.
