The municipality of Gianturco, Italy, has forcibly evicted 1,300 Roma from their camp. The local administration claims funding will be provided for housing for a few families and the construction of a new camp to host around 200 people, but it admitted that most of the evicted will have nowhere to go. Moreover, the new camp represents a serious risk of fostering racial segregation, openly against national and international regulations on the matter. This decision has thus been condemned by local NGOs, including Amnesty International, which started a petition to stop the eviction.
