Polish Woman Loses Flat in Mobility Scooter Row

The Helsinki Foundation for Human Rights has intervened in the case of a woman with physical disabilities whose lease for a flat was terminated due to her mobility scooter being parked in the building's stairwell. This was despite the fact that she had nowhere else to keep it. The landlord decided that keeping the scooter there violated fire regulations and "grossly violated house order." In its letter to the landlord, HFHR pointed out that Polish and international laws require respect for the rights of people with disabilities not only from public authorities, but also from private entities.
