Coalition parties VVD (Liberal party) and PvdA (Labour party) have agreed on reducing the intake of refugees in the Netherlands. The cabinet wants to cancel the preference refugees receive on the waiting list to rent social housing. Benefits and allowances for refugees should be cut too. "We want to rid ourselves of situations in which people on waiting lists for rented social housing are being elbowed out by refugees," explained Prime Minister Mark Rutte. Last week, State Secretary Dijkhoff announced to have additional semi-permanent houses built to cope with the housing shortage.
