As of January 1, 2016, 30 percent of the seats of the supervisory boards of 100 large German companies have to be reserved for women. On March 27, the German Federal Council approved a law that will introduce a women's quota both in the top of German businesses as well as in public services. Minister of Family Affairs, Senior Citizens, Women and Youth Manuela Schwesig calls the law a ''historic step." ''Politics is taking serious action on the equal treatment of women and men. That is the most important signal of this law,'' says Schwesig.
