UN Human Rights Expert Warns Against EU Copyright Directive
The United Nation’s special rapporteur on freedom of opinion and expression, David Kaye, warned that “Europe has a responsibility to modernise its copyright law to address the challenges of the digital age. But this should not be done at the expense of the freedom of expression that Europeans enjoy today.” His words come as MEPs prepare to cast their final votes on the controversial directive during a plenary session on 27 March. The final agreement includes the mandatory upload filtering Liberties has campaigned against.
We want our #communities to be strong and healthy. That means we all need to be cautious, act responsibly and stay informed during #COVID19. That’s why @LibertiesEU will be sharing daily updates and a weekly newsletter devoted to #HumanRightsUnderCorona.
