The mayor of Gdańsk, Paweł Adamowicz, was stabbed on stage during a charity event on Monday. Adamowicz was treated on the spot and underwent five hours of surgery but he later died. “With the deepest regret we must inform that unfortunately we lost the struggle for the life of the president of the city. Honour to his memory.“ said the director of the hospital in Gdańsk. The attacker has been arrested. In a country where the far-right is progressing, Adamowicz had advocated tolerance for the LGBTQ community and minorities and produced an integration model for immigrants.
