A Salafist imam who was ordered to be deported from France to Algeria had filed an appeal to the European Court of Human Rights for an interim measure ordering a stay of execution of his expulsion, which was scheduled on 17 April. The Court decided to apply for an interim measure (Rule 39 of the Rules of Court) and asked the applicant and the government to submit their observations within 72 hours. On 19 April the Court declared, in the light of the information provided by the parties, that it does not oppose France’s wish to expel to Algeria an Imam with known Salafist views.
