The Lithuanian minister for social security and labour has closed the legal loophole that allowed care homes to refuse people with HIV or AIDS. Under the previous regulations, people with acute infectious or other dangerous contagious diseases or acute psychosis were not accepted to these homes. Following an investigation, the Office of the Equal Opportunities Ombudsman found this practice to be discriminatory, as there was no consensus on what is deemed a "dangerous contagious disease" and it contributed to the stigmatization of people with HIV and AIDS.
