Poland Holding Firm in Standoff With European Commission
Despite the fact that the European Commission in December triggered an unprecedented sanctions procedure against Poland, the government in Warsaw has thus far shown no sign of compromise. The EC accuses Poland of serious violations of the rule of law and EU democratic values and has warned the state that if it does not amend these laws, other EU member states would be asked to prepare sanctions. Although European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker last month hinted that things were heading in the right direction, there is yet to be any sign of real change from Warsaw.
We want our #communities to be strong and healthy. That means we all need to be cautious, act responsibly and stay informed during #COVID19. That’s why @LibertiesEU will be sharing daily updates and a weekly newsletter devoted to #HumanRightsUnderCorona.
