Venezuela's democratic opposition has won the European Parliament's prestigious Sakharov Prize for Freedom of Thought. The laureate was decided by the Conference of Presidents (the president and party group leaders) for the 29th time and will be awarded at the December EP plenary session. The EP wants to show its support for the democratic opposition and political prisoners in Venezuela, rewarding the courage of students and politicians fighting for freedom in the face of a repressive government.
