After decades of waiting, Italy has finally introduced the crime of torture in its criminal code. The criminal definition provided by the new law is deeply flawed, up to the point that many had asked for the dismissal of the draft law - arguing that it would have been better to be without a law than with such a bad one. That notwithstanding, today is still a day for celebration, as bittersweet as it is. We waited for so long, and today we finally take that (first) step forward.
