The Italian Parliament has approved a new law that says a migrant without regular documents cannot be detained in a CIE (Center for Identification and Expulsion) for more than 90 days. According to the previous law, the maximum term was 18 months. Under the new guidelines, a migrant's CIE term is reduced to a maximum of 30 additional days if he or she has already spent 90 days in detention.
