La Croce Rossa e VluchtelingenWerk Olanda (l'Agenzia Olandese per i Rifugiati) hanno dichiarato che dalla scorsa estate oltre 47,000 persone hanno fatto domanda per diventare volontari in queste organizzazioni. Anche il numero di richieste di asilo fino alla fine di ottobre è pari a 47,000, incluse quelle ripresentate. Quindi, negli ultimi tre mesi c'è stato un nuovo volontario ogni richiedente asilo. Tra i volontari figura un numero significativo di giovani e di genitori di bambini piccoli, secondo l'Agenzia. Si sentono toccati e vogliono aiutare.
