Nel febbraio 2016, gli operatori della società di sicurezza Fenix Special Training Center, hanno trattenuto illegalmente un cittadino siriano a Zgorzelec. Ritenevano che l'uomo si trovasse illegalmente in Polonia, ma un'indagine della Polizia di Frontiera ha poi confermato il suo status legale. L'Helsinki Foundation for Human Rights ha chiesto al Ministro dell'Interno di assicurarsi che la compagnia stesse operando in maniera appropriata nel proteggere beni e persone. Grazie a tale richiesta, è emerso che Fenix non possiede alcuna licenza e non può quindi svolgere questa attività in Polonia.
