Il presidente lituano Dalia Grybauskaitė ha presentato al Seimas (Parlamento) un'iniziativa legislativa che promuove l'assistenza ai bambini nelle famiglie e nelle case famiglia, così come l'adozione. Al momento, ci sono circa 10,000 bambini senza genitori in Lituania. Le istituzioni ricevono molti più fondi di quanti siano destinati a famiglie e case famiglia - Stato e Comuni assegnano 45 milioni di euro all'anno alle istituzioni per l'infanzia.
