Il Ministro della Giustizia Andrea Orlando ha di recente nominato Adriano Sofri come esperto per fornire un parere sulla riforma penitenziaria in Italia. Nel 1990 Sofri è stato ritenuto colpevole di essere il mandante, nel 1972, dell'omicidio del commissario Luigi Calabresi e condannato per questo a 22 anni di carcere. Si è sempre proclamato innocente. Sofri è un giornalista e intellettuale molto noto, autore di numerosi libri, alcuni dei quali sul carcere. La decisione del ministro Orlando è stata fortemente contestata, a tal punto che Sofri ha deciso di rinunciare all'incarico.
