Per la prima volta in 16 anni, ad ottobre i Moldavi eleggeranno direttamente il nuovo presidente. La decisione di passare ad elezione diretta del presidente - ponendo così fine ad un sistema in cui il presidente era eletto dal Parlamento - è giunta dopo violente proteste di piazza. L'elezione presidenziale non darà ai cittadini soltanto la possibilità di esprimere direttamente la propria voce nella scelta del loro leader, ma sarà anche un'opportunità di votare contro la corruzione, piuttosto che pro o contro l'Europa o la Russia.
