L'ONG britannica Liberty ha avviato una causa per il controllo giurisdizionale del nuovo Investigatory Powers Act. Liberty ha raccolto 52.000 £ tramite crowdfunding - più del quintuplo delle 10.000 £ che sperava di raccogliere. L'ONG chiede la verifica dei poteri di sorveglianza di massa che consentono al governo di monitorare cronologia web, mail, testi di registrazioni di telefonate e di accedere a pc, telefoni e tablet di chiunque. Dopo non aver ricevuto risposta ad una lettera formale inviata a dicembre Liberty ora ha presentato ricorso alla Corte Suprema per l'autorizzazione a procedere.
