Il 27 luglio 2017 una corte di appello olandese ha stabilito che l'UWV, istituto olandese responsabile dell'elargizione dei benefici, ha illegalmente negato a una lavoratrice autonoma il sussidio di maternità. Il tribunale ha stabilito che anche alle donne lavoratrici autonome deve essere riconosciuto un compenso adeguato, in quanto titolate, in base alla Convenzione ONU sulle donne, a ricevere una forma di congedo di maternità incassando un reddito (stabile).
