Il 17 febbraio il Parlamento Finlandese ha bocciato la petizione che chiedeva di abrogare la legge sul matrimonio omosessuale. Il bilancio finale è stato di 120 parlamentari contrari alla petizione e 48 favorevoli. La legge in questione è stata approvata dal precedente governo nel 2014 e ha posto fine alla differenziazione tra unioni omosessuali e matrimoni etero. Garantisce inoltre parità di diritti in tema di adozione e condivisione del cognome. La Finlandia è l'ultimo paese nordico ad aver approvato il matrimonio omosessuale, ma le unioni civili per le coppie gay sono possibili dal 2002.
