Il Parlamento Francese ha approvato il piano governativo di estendere lo stato di emergenza in Francia fino al 15 luglio 2017. Lo stato di emergenza era stato dichiarato nel novembre 2015, dopo gli attacchi di Parigi, ed è già stato prorogato di un anno e mezzo. Per il governo, occorrono poteri estesi per combattere il terrorismo, ma le associazioni per i diritti umani mettono in dubbio l'utilizzo di tali misure. Secondo Human Rights Watch e Amnesty International, la polizia sta abusando dei nuovi poteri concessi dallo stato di emergenza.
