Mikhail Stoyanov è stato trovato morto il 1 ottobre 2008, in un parco di Sofia, Bulgaria. Era uno studente di medicina dell'ultimo anno. Gli imputati del processo, Alexander Georgiev e Radoslav Kirchev, erano membri di un gruppo di giovani che, con le loro parole, "ripulivano il parco dai gay," e Mikhail lo sembrava. E' stato ucciso per soffocamento. Il tribunale di Sofia ha rinviato ancora una volta l'udienza relativa al caso al 28 novembre.
