Nel 2016 le richieste di asilo in Olanda sono diminuite del 46% rispetto al 2015, lo ha annunciato il Servizio Immigrazione IND. Il calo è in gran parte conseguenza dell'accordo UE-Turchia di marzo 2016, che ha drasticamente ridotto il flusso di richiedenti asilo siriani. I richiedenti asilo in Olanda provengono soprattutto da Siria (34%), Eritrea (9%) e Albania (5%). Lo scorso anno sono state presentate 18,000 nuove domande, delle quali 12,000 per ricongiungimento familiare. I dati olandesi sono in linea con quelli della Germania, dove le domande sono diminuite di un terzo.
