Le isole dell'Egeo orientale di Lesbo, Chios e Samos in Grecia si trovano nuovamente a fronteggiare un forte incremento del numero di migranti in arrivo dalla Turchia. Dallo scorso giovedì sono arrivate 566 persone - molte di più rispetto a inizio marzo o a tutto il mese di febbraio. I nuovi arrivati si aggiungono agli oltre 14,000 migranti bloccati nelle isole in attesa della decisione sulle loro richieste di asilo. Le organizzazioni per i diritti umani all'inizio del mese avevano messo in guardia sul fatto che le strutture di accoglienza sono sovraffollate e le condizioni sono disumane.
