Nadia Murad Basee e Lamiya Aji Bashar hanno vinto il premio il Premio Sakharov 2016, il più importante in tema di diritti umani in Europa. Le due sopravvissute alla schiavitù sessuale da parte dell'ISIS rappresentano la sofferenza di migliaia di ragazze e donne yazide rapide dai militanti ISIS e supportano tutte le vittime yazide dello Stato Islamico. Dal 1988 il Premio Sakharov per la Libertà di Pensiero viene attribuito ogni anno dal Parlamento Europeo a individui e organizzazioni impegnati nella difesa dei diritti umani e delle libertà fondamentali.
