I minori migranti non ricevono sufficiente protezione dagli stati membri UE, è quanto emerge da una dichiarazione congiunta di 78 organizzazioni per i diritti umani. La dichiarazione evidenzia che 1 richiedente asilo su 4 è un minore e si stima che solo nel 2016 oltre 700 bambini siano annegati nel tentativo di raggiungere l'Europa. "Molti di questi bambini un giorno diventeranno cittadini UE. Dobbiamo investire su di loro e incoraggiarli a diventare membri attivi delle nostre società. Ue e stati membri possono fare tanto" secondo le organizzazioni, tra cui UNHCR, UNICEF e Save the Children.
