El Ministerio de Salud neerlandés indica que por primera vez hay más personas que no quieren donar órganos que personas que sí quieren. De los casi 31.844 nuevos registros recogidos durante la Semana del Donante, el 83% quería dejar el programa. La Cámara Baja aprobó por una estrecha mayoría un proyecto de ley propuesto por D66 (demócratas liberales) para introducir un sistema activo de donación de órganos, pero no está claro que el Senado vaya a aceptarlo. Con este sistema, todos los adultos que no se hayan registrado como no donantes, se registrarán automáticamente como donantes de órganos.
