A partir de 2019, las parejas del mismo sexo en Austria disfrutarán de los mismos derechos matrimoniales que las heterosexuales. El Tribunal Constitucional ha dictaminado que las restricciones al matrimonio gay se levantarán a finales de 2018 (a menos que el gobierno lo haga antes) tras la denuncia de dos mujeres a las que las autoridades de Viena les denegaron el permiso para contraer matrimonio formal. Las parejas gays pueden unirse por lo civil desde 2010. Con este paso, Austria se alinea con muchos otros países europeos, entre ellos, Alemania, Francia, Gran Bretaña y España.
