El Instituto Neerlandés de Derechos Humanos ha juzgado que la Agencia Central para la Acogida de Solicitantes de Asilo (COA) no debería haber rechazado la solicitud de empleo de una mujer musulmana porque se negara a dar la mano a hombres, estiman que supone una discriminación religiosa. La mayoría del parlamento neerlandés ha considerado que ese juicio, que no es vinculante, debe desestimarse. Malik Azmani, miembro del VVD (liberales), dijo: "No creo que esa sentencia corresponda a las costumbres comunes en Países Bajos. Es una señal equivocada para las personas que vienen a nuestro país".
