En medio del debate actual sobre la acogida y admisión de refugiados, el presidente del Tribunal Constitucional Federal, Andreas Voßkuhle, ha recordado que el derecho de asilo es universal y se aplica a todo aquel que lo necesita por lo que es inadmisible hablar de un "número máximo". Es importante distinguir entre asilo e inmigración, esta si puede limitarse con políticas, señala Voßkuhle. La constitución alemana defiende una "sociedad diversa", que incluye la libertad de credo y el establecimiento de una sociedad pluralista.
